Be a meditation ninja!
I explained a few days ago that meditation is essentially about teaching your mind to keep its attention in one place. It’s about playing with focus and concentration. These exercises are especially crucial now that our minds are bombarded with information.
How many emails were in your inbox this morning?
Which podcasts are you listening to?
What is your workout routine?
Where you get your information about food and nutrition?
I feel overwhelmed just thinking about everything that I could be thinking about! And there’s the issue, right? We could always be doing something else, something more. And our brains will remind us of this.
So, when I can’t get my brain to slow down, instead I slow my breathing.
Here is a short practice that you can do anytime, anywhere. Try it for at least one minute. If you’re lying in bed and can’t sleep, try it for 15 to 20 minutes and notice how you feel. If your mind is pushing against the exercise, give your mind a mental hug and ask it to try.
Here it goes:
Inhale for 4 counts
Hold your breath for 4 counts
Exhale for 4 counts
Hold you breath for 4 count
Repeat
That’s it. You can do this anytime, anywhere. Go, be a meditation ninja!
